Digital transformation of glass packaging manufacturer Miron
Miron Violetglass manufactures and distributes a wide range of unique and patented 'biophotonic' violet glass packaging for natural products in the cosmetic, wellness and food and beverage industries. For more than 25 years, Miron has offered a wide range of bottles and jars with accompanying closures, pumps, pipettes and other accessories to international customers in more than 50 countries.
Thousands of companies package their natural cosmetics, vitamins, superfoods, teas, herbs, honeys, oils, waters and many other products in Miron purple glass. Miron serves both innovative start-ups and established companies that are ready to upgrade their packaging solution.
About the project
At the beginning of 2020, Miron's brand presence in the digital space consisted solely of a shop built back in 2008. At the time, the online channel was little used, both internally and externally. In the spring of 2020, the brand launched a working and responsive temporary website - and in collaboration with us continued to work on a more long-term solution. The client opted for Shopware 6, and decided to entrust the design of the new site to a professional agency.
Minimal Viable Product (MVP)
The first MVP based on the Shopware 6 platform was launched at the end of August 2020. Choosing the Shopware Professional system was a deliberate choice by Miron - the brand saved on licensing (compared to the Enterprise licence) and decided to implement more custom elements using the remaining budget. The MPV version guarantees a good shopping experience for users, intuitive platform management and analysis of customer behaviour on the site.
We implemented a number of custom functionalities for the Miron company. One of these is the 'dynamic bottles & jars slider' on the homepage. In this way, the various bottles and glass products are presented in a unique, user-friendly way. Individual articles can also be found more quickly thanks to an optimised search and filter function. We have also implemented a 'get a quote' functionality to quickly obtain a quote for the products in question. After submitting a quote request, Miron's sales department receives a notification and can see all the details of the request in Shopware.
Digital transformation of the Miron brand
Twenty-five years after its foundation, the Miron brand is growing strongly in the e-commerce sector. This means a lot of changes to existing processes, systems or the way of doing business. First and foremost, the product has to be well adapted to the realities of e-commerce. Previously, all orders went through the sales staff, but now customers place orders themselves. Due to the nature of the product range and the fact that not all closures fit all bottles or jars - we had to create the right product links. It was also a challenge to determine the correct shipping costs - the total weight and number of boxes making up the order had to be calculated, after which - in combination with the shipping address - the correct shipping costs could be calculated. The MVP version started with UPS shipments and then extended this solution. In addition, Miron has customers in more than 50 countries, which further complicated determining the correct VAT rates. By using a combination of two plug-ins, solutions to all these challenges were found.
