From fast to faster: how Strix & RUMvision optimized Shopware performance

At Strix, we believe that in e-commerce, every millisecond counts. While many agencies focus on "lab data" (simulated tests), we know that the only data that truly matters is what your actual customers experience.

That is why we have partnered with RUMvision, a leading real-time Real User Monitoring (RUM) tool. By monitoring real user metrics in real-time, we can move beyond guesswork and make data-driven improvements that directly impact conversion rates and SEO.

The challenge: improving an already fast store

We recently took on the challenge of optimizing an already high-performing Shopware store. The site was performing well, but we knew there was room to squeeze out even more speed to stay ahead of the competition.

Using RUMvision, we identified the Time to First Byte (TTFB) as a key area for improvement. TTFB is a critical metric because if the server is slow to respond, every other part of the page load is delayed.

The results: a 30% improvement in TTFB

By leveraging the real-time insights from RUMvision, our development team implemented targeted optimizations. The results were immediate and measurable:

  • Average TTFB: Reduced from 368ms down to an impressive 259ms (P80).
  • User Impact: This improvement covers 77% of all navigation visits, meaning the vast majority of users are experiencing a significantly snappier site.

Breaking down the data

What makes RUMvision so powerful is the ability to see the "Distribution" of how users interact with the site. When we look at the different navigation types, the performance story becomes even more interesting:

Navigation Type P80 TTFB % of Visits
Standard Navigate 259 ms 77%
Back/Forward Cache 0 ms 12%
Prerender 0 ms 8%
Reload 134 ms <1%

As shown in our RUMvision dashboard, a significant portion of our traffic (20%) experiences a 0ms TTFB thanks to advanced browser features like back_forward_cache and prerender. By optimizing the "Standard Navigate" type down to 259ms, we ensure that even first-time visitors get a lightning-fast experience.

Why Real User Monitoring (RUM) is the future

Synthetic testing (like PageSpeed Insights) is a great starting point, but it doesn't show you the whole picture. RUMvision allows us to:

  1. See Real-World Performance: Monitor how actual devices and network speeds affect your store.
  2. Identify Bottlenecks: Pinpoint exactly where users are dropping off due to performance issues.
  3. Validate Changes: Immediately see the impact of a code deployment on real user behavior.

Strix & RUMvision: your partners in performance

As an official RUMvision partner, Strix is uniquely positioned to help Shopware merchants reach the next level of performance. We don’t just build webshops; we optimize them for the real world.

Is your store as fast as it could be? Contact us to learn how we can use RUMvision to accelerate your e-commerce growth.
