Dierapotheker.nl keeps building next-level e-commerce

About
Dierapotheker.nl is the online shop for pet owners in the Netherlands and Belgium. In 2018, the company switched from a custom-built shop to Shopware 5. According to webshop manager Britt Holle, the freedom and flexibility the platform offers were the main arguments for that choice, alongside cost considerations: by comparison, Magento felt less smooth for Dierapotheker.nl.
Challenge
Disappointing results after going live
After the previous webshop went live, results fell short of expectations. About a year later, Dierapotheker.nl went looking for a partner who could help get things back on solid ground. The focus was mainly on optimisation: not so much a new strategy, but concrete improvements to the existing webshop. Sition (now Strix), as a well-known Dutch Shopware partner, was an obvious choice for Dierapotheker.nl.
Solution
Practical optimisations to the existing webshop
Sition focused on practical improvements rather than a strategic overhaul. Key results included a significant speed improvement to the webshop and a fully rebuilt checkout process. Many customers used to start an order without completing it; since the checkout was rebuilt, results have improved considerably.
Inventory information through Sherpaan
Dierapotheker.nl uses the Sherpaan ERP system to manage its inventory. Sition built the integration between Shopware and Sherpaan, successfully meeting a large number of specific requirements that went beyond standard functionality.
Results
The optimisations are paying off: the webshop is faster, significantly more customers now successfully complete checkout, and the inventory integration with Sherpaan gives Dierapotheker.nl accurate, up-to-date stock information.
Website of the Year 2025 in the pets category
Dierapotheker.nl has been named Website of the Year 2025 in the pets category, a nice recognition of the further-developed webshop and customer experience.
Next step: Shopware 6
Dierapotheker.nl is now looking ahead to the migration to Shopware 6. Britt Holle is enthusiastic about the improved usability of the backend and the extra flexibility the platform offers, and looks forward to continuing the collaboration with Strix on this upgrade.
"No corporate jargon or empty promises, just open and honest communication. That makes Strix a reliable partner for me," says Holle.
(This project was originally delivered by Sition. Sition has since become part of Strix.)
