The future of shopping with AI

T

oday's AI agents are evolving from chatbots into autonomous shoppers that can make purchases for us. While this simplifies shopping, key challenges remain. Toon van Doorn, Technical Consultant at Strix, explores six challenges and how Shopware’s AI can address them:

  1. The Backbone: Structured and high-quality product data
  2. Smart Selection: Matching needs with offers
  3. Dynamic pricing and agent-led negotiation
  4. Seamless checkout and payments
  5. Post-purchase: Order tracking and transparency
  6. Human-in-the-loop notifications and overrides

On dynamic pricing, Toon notes:
"In a future where AI agents handle buying, fixed pricing may disappear. Instead, we’ll see automated negotiations, agents requesting quotes and receiving dynamic pricing based on volume, loyalty, market conditions, and margins. Shopware’s B2B Suite supports this with quote functionality and human-in-the-loop features, allowing partial automation. Sellers can respond programmatically but still intervene manually for special cases, blending AI efficiency with human judgment."
