How Promienie Słońca regained the freedom to grow its e-commerce business with Shopify

About
Within four months, a modern store was launched that streamlined offer management, opened up new sales opportunities, and reduced the business’s dependence on developers.
Challenge
A new promotional idea, a change to the page layout, or the launch of an additional sales feature shouldn’t require a lengthy development process. Especially when e-commerce is managed by a small team and the store needs to respond quickly to seasonality, marketing activities, and changing customer needs.
At Promienie Słońca, technology was increasingly getting in the way of that flexibility. The PrestaShop-based store was working, but developing it was becoming time-consuming, costly, and heavily dependent on technical support. The brand needed a platform better suited to the way its team worked: easier to manage, more predictable in terms of costs, and flexible enough to let the team handle most day-to-day changes independently.
The answer was a migration to Shopify Advanced. Within four months, a modern store was launched that streamlined offer management, opened up new sales opportunities, and reduced the business’s dependence on developers.
Challenges
Promienie Słońca is a Polish brand offering nuts, dried fruit, seeds, snacks, and other products. Its online store had been developed on PrestaShop for years. As more products, content, and business requirements were added, the overall environment became increasingly complex.
The main issue wasn’t the lack of any single feature, but the way the platform affected the team’s day-to-day work. Even relatively small changes required developer involvement. The path from idea to implementation was long, and every new functionality came with an additional cost. The team couldn’t freely modify the page layout, develop content, or quickly test new sales mechanisms.
At the same time, maintaining the store involved responsibilities typical of platforms that are managed and updated on the owner’s side. The team had to take care of system versions, updates, security, and compatibility between individual components. For a company without an in-house technology team, this created an additional workload and increasing dependence on external support.
Promienie Słońca also wanted to create more opportunities to increase average order value. In the previous store, bundles were mainly offered as separate, pre-defined products. Customers could choose a ready-made bundle, but they couldn’t freely combine products themselves. There were also no easy-to-launch multi-buy offers or volume-based discount thresholds.
The migration involved more than just products. Customer accounts, order history, and static and blog content also had to be transferred.
At the same time, changing the technology couldn’t mean disrupting established operational processes. The new platform had to fit into the existing ecosystem without affecting day-to-day sales.
Solution
We started the project with workshops focused on the existing store, the team’s way of working, and the company’s key business objectives. Based on these findings, we selected Shopify Advanced - a solution that matched Promienie Słońca’s needs both functionally and financially.
The SaaS model reduced the workload associated with platform maintenance, updates, and security. At the same time, Shopify’s extensive app ecosystem made it possible to introduce new features faster, without having to build each one from scratch. Choosing the Advanced plan was a deliberate decision: it provided the capabilities needed at the current stage of growth without the costs associated with Shopify Plus.
The new store was built using a selected Shopify theme, which we adapted to Promienie Słońca’s visual identity. The changes included:
- typography and colour palette,
- the layout of key page elements,
- product and promotion presentation,
- mobile views,
- navigation and product filtering.
We also cleaned up the product data before migration. We standardised the way attributes were stored, reduced duplicates, and replaced some free-text fields with predefined values. As a result, new products can now be added according to the same rules, while store filters display consistent and genuinely useful criteria.
Increasing order value was another important part of the project. As part of the MVP, we introduced:
- a bundle builder that allows customers to create their own sets,
- multi-buy offers,
- volume-based discount thresholds,
- clearer labels for products included in promotions.
The new store was also connected to the existing operational setup. Promienie Słońca was already using Sellasist as a middleware layer between e-commerce and the Subiekt ERP system.
The integration handles, among other things, the transfer of customer and order data, as well as updates to fulfilment and shipping statuses. This allowed the team to maintain its familiar way of working despite the change of e-commerce platform.
The migration covered:
- product catalogue,
- customer data,
- order history,
- static and blog content.
Customer and order data was retrieved via the PrestaShop API and then imported into Shopify using a dedicated migration process. The project also included redirects from old URLs to new ones to minimise the risk of losing organic traffic after launch.
We wrapped up the project with team training, documentation, and a post-go-live support period. The entire project was completed within four months.
Results
The most important outcome of the implementation is greater independence for the Promienie Słońca team. People responsible for e-commerce and content can now independently update the product offering, modify selected page sections, manage filters, and use additional apps available within the Shopify ecosystem.
In practice, this means:
- a shorter path from business idea to implementation,
- fewer changes requiring developer support,
- simpler content and product management,
- more consistent data and more useful filters,
- new opportunities for creating bundles and promotions,
- established order fulfilment processes maintained.
The team is already taking advantage of the platform’s greater flexibility by independently installing and testing new apps. Technical support is still needed for more complex changes, but it is no longer required for every store update.
The new Promienie Słońca store combines a modern shopping experience with solutions that make it easier for customers to discover products and take advantage of attractive offers. It provides a solid foundation for further sales growth - from new promotional mechanics to additional channels and markets.
